Can anyone enlighten me on the drug problems in the Appalachian Mts?

Question by Grunge blossom: Can anyone enlighten me on the drug problems in the Appalachian Mts?
I would like to become a drug addiction therapist in the near future. My dream is to help the people of the Appalachian Mts and mining towns of WV who have drug addictions.

Why are drugs a big part of life in the mountains?

thank you, and i hope i did not offend anyone. i understand that many people who live in those regions do not have drug problems. but i watched a show about the drugs that are prevalent there, and it touched me deep inside. i want to help : )
thank you everyone!

Wherever you have poverty, lack of education, unemployment, and then are living backwards from the rest of the people in the United States, there will be people ready and willing to forget their problems by any means. Appalachia is no different from Harlem in New York, or the projects in Chicago. The culture is different, but addiction, as a symptom of these other social maladies, remains the same. Also too, in the mountains they make “white lightening”, which is about 150proof alcohol. That will cure anything, I betcha.
I’m getting a degree in Social Work, so I want to wish you luck in your efforts and that you can make a difference in the lives of your clients.

Is there a free drug rehab in the San Antonio, Tx area?

Question by : Is there a free drug rehab in the San Antonio, Tx area?
My older sister has confided in me that she is addicted to heroin, crystal meth, something called Ice as well as a number of prescription medications. She steals money as well as medications from pretty much anyone she comes in contact with. I don’t have money to pay for her to go to a rehab center and she doesn’t have insurance nor does she work. I love my sister despite her many faults and want to help her any way I can. I have already lost one sister (not drug related) and don’t want to have to bury another. PLEASE I just really need to find help for my sister.

Best answer:

Answer by mmuscs
Unless your sister wants help there is nothing you can do. The only way she can go to rehab is voluntary or court order. Does she want help? Check this location

http://www.lifetimerecoverytx.org/

She will need in patient care to detox. The methadone clinic cannot provide that. All she would be doing is substituting one drug for another.

The first thing she needs to admit is there is a problem and she wants help.

Addiction.?

Question by Sidnii;; act on your impulse: Addiction.?
I have been addicted to drugs, but somehow I’ve gotten hooked on self-mutilation (cutting). I know that sounds stupid, but once you start you cant stop. I know ‘rehab’ is in order, but I don’t feel the need to go to a nuthouse that reaks of old people. I just need a substitute for cutting, so I can lessen the process, and go to not cutting.
I’ve been cutting for atleast a year now, and it had gotten to the point where I had passed out from blood loss. Now, how will this also affect my sports career at school?

Best answer:

Answer by Fabienne
Please don’t just switch-I have over and over again-there is so much of yourself you are not because you switch-trust me-get into some rehab-or at least a 12 step program

Answer by emyleeanne
I saw something on TV that people that cut would put rubber bands on their wrist. Whenever they felt like cutting they would snap the rubber band on their wrist. If you don’t want to go to rehab you should at least go to a therapist. And I don’t think you are stupid. I myself have a highly addictive personality. I used to be addicted to pain killers. Whenever I enjoy a certain feeling a get addicted really fast. Good luck!

Does anyone know of a low cost or no cost rehab in southern california?

Question by worriedsister: Does anyone know of a low cost or no cost rehab in southern california?
My brother is addicted to drugs and alcohol and needs help. He is not working and we cannot afford to place him in a private facility.

Best answer:

Answer by George
How old is your brother? Is this something he wants to do? First thing you can do is check with the county health services or the salvation army both have rehab services that are free or low cost, or they know who does. There are inpatient and out patient treatment programs personally I believe the impatient program is a better way to go it gets you out of the environment where the drugs are available. How ever unless your brother is ready to stop using and wants help the program probably won’t work. If he is ready and wants help be very supportive of him it plays a big part in recovery it is a big step for him and very difficult but well worth it.
Good Luck
George
