what are Addiction Medicine doctors called?

Question by Crazy Pants: what are Addiction Medicine doctors called?
u know the doctors that help people get off of drugs && their addictions

Best answer:

Answer by Sarah M
psychiatrists, or addiction specialists

Answer by Hasna Belle
Depending on the severity of the addiction, the person would see a therapist or a councilor for therapy, and would probably see a medical doctor, or a psychiatrist, for prescription drugs (yes, drugs to stop taking drugs) in order to break the addictions. If it’s a very serious situation, they might be admitted into the hospital, or a rehabilitation center for a period of time, in order to undergo intense treatment and observation.

There are no special “names” for doctors who deal with addictions, only psychiatrists who sometimes specialize in addictions.

Juvenile rehab record for Police Academy?

Question by Skittles: Juvenile rehab record for Police Academy?
I’m 23 and I’m preparing to enter the police academy. I haven’t applied yet but I have a question about the background check. When I was 14-15 I entered a rehabilitation clinic for minor drug use and also entered a mental health facility for depression (both voluntary). I was in the rehab for two weeks and the mental health facility for about a week. I haven’t had any problems since and have used no drugs since. Since it happened when I was a juvenile, will the police academy still be able to access those records and if they can will they hold it against me? I live in PA by the way. If they will hold it against me, is there anyway for me to fight that? I have never gotten in trouble with the police and have been clean since the rehab. Is there any way I can get those records erased?

There is a chance you will be rejected, your tender age at the time might be ok. Mental health issues may keep you from police work, or at least it should.

Answer by ricochet
In most states your juvi record is permanently sealed when your turn 18 or 21 depending on the state. The only thing that might hurt you is the mental thing. this may haunt you. Ask questions at the academy. Some one there should be able to help.

Sorry, no

Yes.

My brother started out having a problem with alcohol. He got help for it, but the addiction again began with prescription drugs. After he received rehab the second time, he was good for several months before slipping.

My brother is now dead from his addictions. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him and blame myself for not doing more for him. I miss him more than I ever thought possible.
