Alcohol and Drug abuse question? 10 points!!?

Question by samii: Alcohol and Drug abuse question? 10 points!!?
Do you think that the government should legalize all drugs?
and what can we do to help prevent future alcoholics and drug users from abusing substances? Why do you feel people feel the need to drink alcohol excessively?

Best answer:

Answer by Chevelle
I do not think ALL drugs.
Only Marijuana.
because it is a fact that Marijuana is less harmful and less addictive than tobacco and alcohol.

Answer by Jamie James Jonathan Lynch
No, do you want to live in a country of insanity and bad reputation? You’d probably be murdered with-in a week if all drugs were legalized. Look at alcohol, it’s legal but it ruins other life’s as well as yours. This stuff makes you crazy.

The mental institute would be a hotel with most the population in it.

We need to manipulate the drug-abusers on how pathetic they’re/going to be. They should be told their corrupt and doing the act of evil.

And, yes, people don’t need to drink alcohol. If they say they do, they’re stupid.

how big is the lortab abuse in the U.S.?

Question by kajunguy: how big is the lortab abuse in the U.S.?

Best answer:

Answer by jeffh3000
In a 2003 and 2005 report, the national institutes of health showed some pretty bleak figures.

They estimated that in 2005 that 48 million Americans, 20% of population, had abused prescription drugs.

Based off the 2002 survey, just that year, 4.7 million people used prescription drugs “non-medically” for the first time. This means new abusers of prescription medications on top of exister abusers.

Data for *new abusers* of drugs that year broke down as following:
* 2.5 million used pain relievers
* 1.2 million used tranquilizers
* 761,000 used stimulants
* 225,000 used sedatives

Assuming those numbers are average, then based on total abusers of 48 million would break down as follows:

* 25.5 million used pain relievers
* 12.3 million used tranquilizers
* 7.77 million used stimulants
* 2.3 million used sedatives

lortab is classified as a pain reliever, so it would be part of that 25.5 million abusers

I have lost my friend to an online chat addiction?

Question by Blah Blah Blah: I have lost my friend to an online chat addiction?
We used to talk all the time and were so close…we dated too. He has always struggled with not fitting in and being socially awkward…until he found a chat room. Now that’s all he wants to do! He used to be so focused on playing guitar but now he barely leaves his house and when he does he can’t wait to get back home. He is 16 and also goes to school online…he let the few friendships he did have in real life go. I don;t think he believes there’s a problem because he is so happy to have found a group of ppl who are always there 24/7 and all he has to do is type. He even has gf’s from this chat room…none of these ppl he has ever met in real life. It’s like he prefers it this way and spends more than 10 hours a day online. He has also suffered from depression and still does I guess…..is there much I can do if he doesn’t want to change? He barely acknowledges me anymore….what are the effects of this if he doesn’t change? Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Kimmy
I was the exact same at 16. Just try to support him and be friends with him at school, and join in his chat rooms with him. If you can’t do that, then call him when he’s home.
I don’t have friends anymore which is a very sad thing, so just try to be supportive. If you aren’t he’ll probably just push you away.

Answer by that bird
OxyContin® is a prescription painkiller used for moderate to high pain relief associated with injuries, bursitis, dislocations, fractures, neuralgia, arthritis, lower back pain, and pain associated with cancer. OxyContin® contains oxycodone, the medication’s active ingredient, in a timed-release tablet. Oxycodone products have been illicitly abused for the past 30 years.
Commonly known on the street as OC, OX, Oxy, Oxycotton, Hillbilly heroin, and kicker.
Pharmacological effects include analgesia, sedation, euphoria, feelings of relaxation, respiratory depression, constipation, papillary constriction, and cough suppression. A 10 mg dose of orally-administered oxycodone is equivalent to a 10 mg dose of subcutaneously administered morphine as an analgesic in a normal population. Oxycodone’s behavioral effects can last up to 5 hours. The drug is most often administered orally
As with most opiates, oxycodone abuse may lead to dependence and tolerance. Acute overdose of oxycodone can produce severe respiratory depression, skeletal muscle flaccidity, cold and clammy skin, reduction in blood pressure and heart rate, coma, respiratory arrest, and death.

Chronic use of opioids can result in tolerance for the drugs, which means that users must take higher doses to achieve the same initial effects. Long-term use also can lead to physical dependence and addiction — the body adapts to the presence of the drug, and withdrawal symptoms occur if use is reduced or stopped. Properly managed medical use of pain relievers is safe and rarely causes clinical addiction, defined as compulsive, often uncontrollable use of drugs. Taken exactly as prescribed, opioids can be used to manage pain effectively
Pharmaceuticals such as OxyContin® can be diverted in many ways. The most popular form is known as “doctor shopping,” where individuals, who may or may not have legitimate illnesses requiring a doctor’s prescription for controlled substances, visit many doctors to acquire large amounts of controlled substances. Other diversion methods include pharmacy diversion and improper prescribing practices by physicians
Many States have launched efforts to curb the illegal use of OxyContin®. Louisiana, Maine, Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee have enacted legislation to deal with this issue. California, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, and Washington have established prescription monitoring programs. Many more States are working to establish legislation and prescription monitoring programs to deal with diverted pharmaceuticals
